How many different kinds of birds in the world?

As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, there are approximately 10,000 recognized species of birds in the world. However, it’s important to note that new bird species are discovered and taxonomic revisions are made from time to time, so the exact number may change as scientific research progresses.
